Domain Flipping is when you purchase a domain name aka website url for cheap and sell it for a higher price — making profit.

There’s lots of domain marketplaces where you can purchase domains from, but I personally use GoDaddy, I’ve found them to have the best overall experience buying/selling.

First, you’ll need to come up with a domain name.

If you’re having trouble coming up with ideas you can use ChatGPT or Claude to brainstorm ideas for different topics.

Think of names that can be used for brands/businesses vs something more personal that maybe only you would benefit from.

Here’s how to get started:

One of my favorite free tools is called Instant Domain Search.

As you start typing the name of a domain, it changes the color of the text to let you know if a domain is available.

Here’s what the colors mean:

Once you have a name you like, search for the domain in GoDaddy.

If the domain & extension is available you’re see it listed at the top.

In this case, googledog.com is taken, but googledog.net is available for $0.01

This is the perfect example of buying a domain for the lowest amount possible.

You don’t need all the extras, protection, security & email they offer since we just want the domain name itself.

Next comes the fun part…. Selling or Flipping your domain.

Head over to Afternic, they are a domain marketplace owned by GoDaddy.

Sign-up to Create a Free account — then you’ll list your domains for sale.

You can manually type your domains in the open box or you can upload a CSV file with your domains listed if you are selling more than one.

Hit the Next button to set your price and then finish the listing.

Once you sell your domain, you’ll be able to withdraw the profits to either a PayPal account or directly to your bank account.

Here’s a domain I bought for $1 and sold it for $99.

You can see Afternic takes a cut for listing on their platform.

This may seem like a lot of fees but they’ll handle the domain transfer, registration and all legal paperwork for you after you’ve sold your domain.
