You essentially find products on Amazon you want to promote on your blog/website, social media or online community and get paid every time someone purchases a product through your referral link.

However, if you’re not careful Amazon will ban your account for not following their guidelines.

1. Never Hide Your Amazon Links 💻

When you’re promoting your Amazon products online don’t use link shorteners like Bitly or TinyURL.

Amazon has built-in short form links that don’t look spammy and align with their terms and conditions.

Most of the time readers/customers won’t even see the url link itself, they will just click the product image or hyperlink.

2. Don't Steal Amazon's Content 😈

This one is especially easy to fall victim to.

When promoting a product you aren’t allowed to use the product image, ratings, reviews or prices directly from Amazon’s website.

I suggest using your favorite photo editor, like Canva to create a simple mock-up product image, this way you can customize the image and make it your own style.

Instead of giving the price of the product, maybe create a button that says “Check Price on Amazon” — this adds a level of curiosity and intrigue to your product as well.

3. Always Include Affiliate Disclosure 🔎

According to the FTC every website that is promote products via affiliate marketing needs to contain a disclosure stating you are participating in Amazon Associates.

I’ve always found this helpful to put near the top of my article or product listing to make sure there’s no confusion.

Here’s an example of what I use on my website:

4. Keep Your Website List Updated 🎯

When you sign-up for Amazon Associates one of the conditions you agree to is keeping an updated list of all the websites you’ll be promoting their products on.

For example…

• Facebook Groups

• Social Media Accounts

• Website/Blog

• LinkedIn Profile

• YouTube Channel

They make it super easy to just add the URL’s of all the places you’ll be promoting products, better to add more sites just to cover your bases later on.

5. Don’t Bribe People to Click Your Links 🎁

As silly as this one sounds, it’s legit.

You can’t incentivize your readers/viewers to click on your affiliate links.

Don’t offer them money, prizes, gift cards or anything else in exchange for their click.

Don’t overthink this one, just be smart and you’ll be fine…
